Submarine Communications Cables
Submarine Communications Cables are laid along the ocean floor between land-based stations to carry telecommunication signals across oceans. The first ones were laid in the 1850s and carried telegraphy traffic. They then progressed into carrying telephone traffic, then data communications traffic, until now where they carry digital data including telephone, internet, and private data traffic. These cables are made of optical fiber technology and connect most of the world together. The submarien communication cables are vastly important as they are extremely reliable with multiple paths to transmit the data.
